Prayer Day – Desire

Ladies,

Some things I hear frequently from wives who feel unloved is that they wish their husband desired them:

  • “I want him to WANT to be with me.”
  • “I want to be his highest priority!”
  • “I don’t want him giving attention to anyone else that should rightfully belong to me.”
  • “I wish he wanted to talk to me.”
  • “I wish he wanted me sexually.”
  • “I want to connect with him spiritually and emotionally.”
  • “I want him to pray with me.”
  • “I wish he would email me/call me more.”
  • “I wish he would tell me how much he loves me.”
  • “I want to share my heart with him and I wish he wanted to hear about what matters to me.”
  • “I want him to come up to me and hug me and want to hear my heart.”
  • “Why doesn’t he want to spend time with me like I want to spend time with him?”

Here is something that is MIND BLOWING:

God feels the same way about us!

  • He wants us to want Him more than anything.
  • He wants us to desire to connect with Him spiritually and emotionally.
  • He wants us to want to talk with Him.
  • He wants us to hunger for His Word.
  • He wants us to enjoy communicating with Him.
  • He wants us to really know Him – not that we can know Him fully – but we can grow in our knowledge and love for Him as He reveals Himself to us in His Word.
  • He wants us to long for His presence.
  • He wants us to be one in Spirit with Him, to abide in Him.
  • He wants to fill us with His Spirit.
  • He wants us to care about what is important to Him.
  • He wants our attention – and He doesn’t want us putting other things/people above His rightful place in our hearts.

We cannot pray effectively and powerfully unless and until we have a DEEP, insatiable, permeating, abiding HUNGER and DESIRE for God.  Not for His blessings.  Not for “stuff” He can give us.  But for HIM.

As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, my God. Psalm 42:1

  • I desire to do your will, my God; your law is within my heart. Psalm 40:8
  • My soul yearns, even faints, for the courts of the LORD; my heart and my flesh cry out for the living God. Psalm 84:2
  • One thing I ask from the LORD, this only do I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the LORD and to seek him in his temple. Psalm 27:4

Lord,

Thank You that You desire to have a relationship with us. How unfathomable that You are mindful of US!?!?  How incredible that You know us and that You, the Creator of the Universe, the King of all Creation, the sovereign, holy, all-powerful, all-knowing, wise and mighty Lord would want us to know You, to have a relationship with You and to be near You.  THANK YOU for providing the blood of Jesus to cover our great sin debt that we could never repay on our own. We deserve to be separated from You forever by our mountains of sin.  But You have provided a way for us to come near – by the gift of Jesus’ sacrifice on our behalf. It is ALL Your work and Your doing.

We confess that we are not even able to produce faith or desire for You on our own. On our own, we are spiritually dead. We cannot see or hear or speak of spiritual things unless You bring us to Life.

How we pray that You might instill in our hearts a DEEP, unquenchable thirst, longing and desire for You.  May it be that there is nothing in heaven we desire except for You and nothing we desire on earth but You.

Let us pray with fervency, with supernatural faith, with unshakable trust in You and with supreme desire for Your Spirit, for Your indwelling us, for Your presence, for Your power in our lives, for Your will to be done and for Your glory.  Let us lay aside our own desires and let us determine to love what You love and hate what You hate.  Thank You that You are able to change our desires to match Your own.

Let us be women who desire You with ALL our hearts, minds, souls and strength. Let us delight in Your Word and enjoy and savor each Word You have prepared for us in the Bible. Let us anticipate our time with You each day with JOY. Let us cling to Your promises and Your Spirit and truth. Let us forsake the world and its wisdom and its ways. Let the things of this world become less and less important to us. Let the things of God become more and more exciting and interesting and necessary to us as You refine our faith and build our faith and make us more and more like Christ.

As we pray for our husbands and for ourselves and our families, let us primarily pray out of a desire for Your will to be done and Your glory to be accomplished – no matter what that means or costs to us personally.

Let us lay down our desires for wealth, health, long life, things, human feelings, entertainment, idols (things we shamefully put above You in our hearts), fame, power, glory, human honor, human achievement and worldly wisdom.

Let us desire only You. We totally submit ourselves to You. We hold nothing back. We receive Your Spirit! Flood us with Your power. Make us holy and set us apart for Your use.  You are our prize!  You are our reward! You are MORE than enough to satisfy us. We will be content in You alone. You are all we need! We trust You to provide for our physical needs today. But even more than we need our physical needs met, we desperately need You every single moment of the day.

I pray for our husbands, that You might work to accomplish Your will in their lives by Your power for Your glory. Help us to live in obedience to You, that we might get out of Your way so that our husbands can best hear You.  Use us to bless our husbands. Give them Your wisdom to accomplish Your purposes – even when we don’t understand what You are doing at the time. We trust You, we love You and we long to serve You and please You alone!

In the Name, power and will of Christ.

AMEN!

Quotes from E.M. Bounds – “The Necessity of Prayer”

  • To be filled with God’s Spirit, to be filled with God’s Word, is to know God’s will.
  • Prayer has everything to do with molding the soul into the image of God… That person who does not pray cannot possibly be called a Christian. By no possible pretext can such a person claim any right to the Name or its implied significance. The person who does not pray is a sinner, pure and simple. For prayer is the only way in which the soul of a person can enter into fellowship and communion with the source of all Christlike Spirit and energy. Therefore, a person who desk not pray is not of the household of faith.
  • It is not in our power, perhaps, to create fervency of spirit at will, but we can ask God to implant it. Then it is ours to nourish and cherish… The process of personal salvation is not only to pray, to express our desires to God, but to acquire a fervent spirit.
  • The indispensable requirement for all true praying is a deeply seated desire that seeks after God Himself, and remains unsatisfied until the choicest gifts in heaven have been richly and abundantly granted.
  • The absence of this holy desire in the heart (for God) is reasonable proof that there has either been a decline in spiritual joy, or that the new birth has never taken place. “Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled!” Matthew 5:6
  • Two things He will not tolerate – insincerity and lukewarmness.
