National Day of Prayer and Global Call to Prayer

I have copied and pasted a post from the Global Call to Prayer  task force at www.nationaldayofprayer.org.

The National Day of Prayer for America this year is today, May 1, 2014. And there is also a Global Call to Prayer, as well. I would love for us all to pray together for our own nations and for the nations around the world the 3 prayer points at the bottom of this article – and particularly – let’s pray these things for the church around the world.

———————————–

Lord of the Universe. Lord of this planet. Lord of the nations. Lord of our hearts. On this National Day of Prayer, we look to You…
In the darkness, You are our Light.
In the storm, You are our Anchor.

In our weakness, You are our Strength. In our grief, You are our Comfort.
In our despair, You are our Hope.
In our confusion, You are our Wisdom. In time of terrorism, You are our Shield. In time of war, You are our Peace.

In times of uncertainty, You are the Rock on which we stand.

We make our prayer to You using the words of the prophet Daniel:

O Lord, You are the great and awesome God, who keeps His covenant of love with those who love Him and keep His commandments. You are merciful and forgiving. You are righteous, but this day we are covered with shame because we have sinned against You, and done wrong. We have turned away from Your commands and principles. We have turned away from You.

Yet You have promised in 2 Chronicles 7, that if we–a people identified with You–would humble ourselves, pray, seek Your face, and turn from our wicked ways, then You would hear our prayer, forgive our sin and heal our land.

So we choose to stop pointing our finger at the sins of others, and examine our own hearts and lives. We choose to acknowledge our own sin–our neglect and defiance and ignorance and even rejection of You. This day we choose to repent.

In response to our heartfelt repentance, God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, Father of Jesus Christ, in keeping with all Your righteous acts and according to Your promise, turn away Your anger and Your wrath from the United States of America. Hear the prayers and petitions offered to You on this National Day of Prayer, as we give You our full attention. Give ear, our God, and hear; open Your eyes and see. We do not make requests of You because we are righteous, but because of Your great mercy.

For the glory of Your Name hear our prayer, forgive our sin, and heal our land.

We ask this in the name of Your Son Jesus Christ who offers us salvation from Your judgment, forgiveness for our sin, and reconciliation with You through His own blood shed on the Cross. Amen.

National Day of Prayer Task Force

The team behind Australia’s National Day of Prayer is calling the nations of the world to 48 hours of prayer and fasting. This period of prayer will take place from 30 April – 1 May 2014. April 30 is America’s National Day of Repentance (NDOR) www.dayofrepentance.org while May 1st is the 63rd annual National Day of Prayer (NDP) www.nationaldayofprayer.org celebrated throughout the USA.

Pastor Matt Prater said, “April 30 is the 225th anniversary of George Washington’s inauguration as a devout Christian president and the 151st anniversary of Lincoln’s day of ‘humiliation, prayer and fasting’ held during the devastating times of the Civil War. The theme for the USA National Day of Prayer on May 1st, 2014 ‘One Voice, United in Prayer’, is taken from Romans 15:6: ‘So that with one mind and one voice you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.’ The 2014 theme is all about the need for individuals, corporately and individually, to place their faith in the unfailing character of their Creator, who is sovereign over all governments, authorities, and men.”

Dr. Graham McLennan from Australia said, “We in Australia believe it is our turn to bless the nation of America through prayer and fasting according to 2 Chronicles 7:14. We join together to pray that God will raise up united prayer as one voice for the USA. We in Australia are grateful for the protection that America gave Australia and the nations of the free world during World War II. The Battle of the Coral Sea led by the USA was the turning point in the Second World War for Australia.”

“Today we are calling the nations of the world to join in prayer and fasting with our brothers and sisters in Christ in the USA. Last year we had people from 28 nations join with us. This year we are believing for 100 nations to join us in prayer and fasting for the USA.” – Warwick Marsh from Australia

David Rowsome from Australia said, “The Motto ‘In God We Trust’ is the foundation for America’s success. We thank God for America and pray for the healing of your land and the restoration of your foundations. We are asking God to answer our prayers for transformation in the USA and to inspire the nations of the world to join with us in prayer and fasting for America for 48 hours from April 30th to May 1st 2014.”

  • Prayer and fasting and repentance can lead to both national and spiritual breakthrough.

Will you join in by praying these 3 prayer points?

1. That America would repent of its pride and self-idolatry, as we “humble ourselves and pray, turn from our wicked ways” and invite, and welcome God back into government, legal system, churches, family, education, military, business, media and the arts.
2 Chronicles 7:14

2. That America would seek wisdom from God because “the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom”. Psalm 111:10

3. That the Church in America would reject her lukewarm apathetic attitude and arise to her full God-given destiny in Christ and together walk in their first love for God. Rev 3:16-17
